Identifying a mushroom by flipping through a guidebook can be daunting. Most guidebooks help you navigate to a particular group using a few simple characteristics which often begins with spore color. There are more ways to organize mushrooms into similar groups but this is difficult to do in print since it creates a lot of redundancy.

I am starting to create pages that will give users another way to think about groups of mushrooms. This first example is for medium to large gilled mushrooms, growing on wood. I focus on the most common species and genera in the Pacific Northwest to avoid unnecessary complexity.
