Ashford is a small town tucked into the Cascades on the SW side of Mount Rainier. There is a grocery store and convenience store, a couple of hotels, and a nice meeting area with public restrooms at Rainier Basecamp.

Nearby forests include 2 state forests, Nisqually Community Forest , 2 sections of Snoqualmie-Baker National Forest, and the SW Rainier National Park.
