Orange Jelly Fungi

There is a wide variety of orange jelly fungi throughout the pacific northwest. Some of these are cone-shaped, while others are more brain-like or lobed. Many of these species are notoriously difficult to identify confidently for a few reasons

  • Different species can look nearly identical to each other
  • Genetic sequencing has proven we had the wrong names for some species
  • Genetic sequencing has confirmed that what was previously understood as one species is actually multiple species

Heterotextus alpinus – previously Guepiniopsis alpina

Heterotextus alpinus

Synonyms – Guepinia alpina, Guepiniopsis alpinus

Orange Jelly Cone
Dacrymyces chrysospermus
