Yellow Flowerpot Parasol

This mushroom is quite common throughout the US in greenhouses and houseplants. Its bright yellow color, small size, scaly cap and stem, and fragile tissue make this quite easy to identify.

It is a saprophtye meaning it lives on dead or decaying organic matter. It is not harmful to the plant but it is mildly toxic to humans if consumed. This might lead someone to try removing the mushroom however the fungus is likely well established in the soil.

If one is concerned about children or animals eating the mushroom, just remove the mushrooms and small pins when they appear and possibly water the plant less frequently.
