Suillus are also known as the slippery jacks, or just simply ‘jacks’. They can be difficult to reduce to a simple set of consistent features however they typically have some of the following:
- Slimy or viscid cap
- Or hairy, fibrillose cap
- veil tissue on cap edge
- Wide pores (easy to see the pores on the underside of the cap)
- Veil tissue on stem
- Glandular dots on the stem
