Suillus are also known as the slippery jacks, or just simply ‘jacks’. They can be difficult to reduce to a simple set of consistent features however they typically have some of the following:

  • Slimy or viscid cap
  • Or hairy, fibrillose cap
  • veil tissue on cap edge
  • Wide pores (easy to see the pores on the underside of the cap)
  • Veil tissue on stem
  • Glandular dots on the stem
