Working with iNaturalist

Most of you know how much I love iNaturalist. It is an excellent way to learn more about all types of life around us including fungi.

I photograph most of the interesting mushrooms I find on my walks and then upload them to iNat. This helps me to keep track of what I have found, and where. Combined with other observations from the community, this sort of information can be helpful for creating lists of species most likely to be found in a specific area, at a particular time of the year.

For instance. If you were interested in finding the most commonly found/photographed/identified species near Portland, OR in November and December, you could create a fairly simple search to find the answer here.

Here is an iNaturalist overview as well as a few tricks I learned

Morel crostini is a great, easy to make hors d’oeuvre to impress guests, or simply to enjoy yourself.
