Overview

One of the best places to search for morels is 1 year-old burn areas. This large 2021 burn is 20 miles west of Naches, WA. In the past week or two, low elevation areas around the burn finally started to fruit.  Members are invited to meet up in the area this weekend (May 21-22) where we will discuss good locations to explore, and gather again in the afternoon to share what we found with help on identification.

Staying Safe

Download maps for offline use (instuctions here)

Download maps.me and zoom to the Yakima area to make sure the appropriate maps are downloaded. This works offline

Have a fully charged phone with external battery

Put your phone in airplane or battery saving mode. Your device loses power quickly when trying to locate a cell signal

Go with others and let someone know when to expect you back

Check the weather and pack appropriately

Carry the 10 essentials or be deliberate  about what you don’t. Food, water, headlamp (with extra batteries), rain gear, knife, and navigation are all really important.
