Oregon is home to a range of interesting mushroom habitats making it a favorite spot for casual foragers as well as commercial pickers. The coastal region is suitable for mushrooms nearly all year long. The coastal range is heavily forested, very accessible by car, and gets regular rains throughout much of the year.
The Cascades display a range of tree diversity as one moves from the wetter western slopes to the dryer pine forests to the east, and widespread volcanic soils create habitat especially suitable for the prized pine mushroom matsutake. Annual forest fires also create conditions suitable for large flushes of burn morels.
